Reason 1: AI Crawlers Are Blocked

The most common reason. The easiest to fix.

AI engines — including OpenAI's GPTBot, Anthropic's ClaudeBot, Perplexity's PerplexityBot, and Google's extended crawlers — are frequently blocked by default in robots.txt configurations, especially on sites built before 2024 or migrated from platforms that added blanket crawler blocks.

If a crawler can't read your site, the AI engine it feeds cannot cite your site. Full stop.
